Things to Do

As beach weather beckons you to the Alabama Gulf Coast, it’s time to start planning for serious family fun. Of course, sandcastles, skim boards and splashing in the waves are timeless, essential activities in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. But, here are a few high-adrenaline activities away from the beach to occupy your adventurous brood.

Ziplining
Ziplining in Gulf Shores, Alabama: Ever wanted a birds-eye view of Coastal Alabama? If so, Hummingbird Ziplines at The Wharf is for you and yours. The Hummingbird Ziplines are an unforgettable, high-adventure experience consisting of nine towers and seven ziplines over the length of one mile. The course takes you as high as 90 feet of the ground, providing a great vantage point for spectacular views of the stunning coastal scenery. Participants must weigh at least 65 pounds, and professional guides accompany each group on the zip tour.

Scuba
If you have older kids who are experienced scuba divers or are eager to learn, submerge yourself in the fastest-growing activity to hit Alabama waters. The Alabama Gulf Coast boasts the largest artificial reef system in the country. For years, scuba divers have gone down to find fish among the area’s sunken cars, culverts and even old Army tanks. Alabama’s underwater attractions took a huge leap forward when Alabama sunk its first full-size ship, The Lulu. The Lulu is a 270-foot retired freighter that now sits in 115 feet of water 17 miles south of Perdido Pass. The ship’s superstructure is just 60 feet down, making The Lulu perfect for divers of all skill levels as well as dive classes.

Waterville USA
For splish-splashing fun closer to shore, check out the thrill options at Waterville USA. Dune Racer rises 55 feet high. Six riders on mats race each other down a looping course before hitting the big drop, with speeds reaching 40 miles per hour. It’s just one of many slides at the park, which also includes a wonderful wooden roller coaster, escape room, lazy river, and more.
